The Huntsville Times reports that on Saturday the Madison County Democrats met in downtown Huntsville and Ron Sparks was the headliner. He voiced his support for Gen. Wesley Clark, should Clark jump into the 2008 presidential race, and also shared his opinions on issues the U.S. is currently facing.

State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks pledged his support for retired Gen. Wesley Clark of Arkansas, who received 2 percent in write-in votes.

“He understands how to make this country safe,” Sparks said. “At this point in history, that’s what we need more than anything in the world.”

Sparks continued to show interest in challenging U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, who faces re-election in 2008.

Among other issues, Sparks voiced concern about federal budget deficits, the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, and the welfare of American soldiers serving in the Middle East.

“They deserve a hero’s welcome when they come home and medical care that’s the best we can possibly give them,” Sparks said.

To me, that sounds like somebody who’s getting ready to run for office…
