In today’s editorial, the Annistor Star mildly praises Jeff Sessions for not acting as a ‘White House spokesman’ during last week’s pivotal hearings. However, Alabama shouldn’t have to settle for a Senator who does his job right every now and then. We deserve a senator who’s constantly fighting for the people of this state, rather […]

It’s often been said that the one true advantage of the Republican Party is the gobs of cash it’s able to raise. It appears that the GOP won’t have that on it’s side in 2008:
For the first time since the passage of campaign finance reform in 2002, national Democrats have outpaced their Republican rivals in […]

The Washington Post has the full transcript of yesterday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. In addition, TPM Muckraker has posted video of an exchange between Jeff Sessions and Alberto Gonzales.
Upon reading over the transcript, here’s what caught my attention:
SESSIONS: Well, Mr. Gonzales, with regard to United States attorney Iglesias, there were concerns about vote fraud. […]

Well, I watched part of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Nothing too extraordinary, but here’s what the New York Times had to say about Sessions’ performance at the hearing:
Mr. Gonzales got a friendly reception from Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama and a former United States attorney, who urged Mr. […]

While listening to Jeff Sessions’ Wednesday press conference, there was one exchange that jumped out at me. The reporter goes out of his way to kiss-up to the senator and Sessions goes on the attack against Democratic attempts to bring the Iraq War to a conclusion.
While I’m sure my transcript isn’t perfect, there are several […]

Out of Mississippi comes news that Sen. Thad Cochran (R) out-raised Jeff Sessions with a total of $630,000. That certainly puts Sessions’ haul of $545,000 in perspective, considering that Mississippi is nearly half as populous as Alabama. And I don’t believe that Cochran had to fly in the Vice-President to raise his cash for him.
If […]

Jeff Sessions raised $545,000 in the first quarter of the year, bringing his total to $1.87 million.
While that’s certainly a lot of cash, it pales in comparison to some of Sessions’ colleagues. In the first quarter, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) raised $1.02 million, Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) raised $1.1 million, Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) raised […]

From the AP:
“There are few things more dangerous to democracy than playing politics with our criminal justice system, but it looks like that is exactly what Jeff Sessions is doing,” state Democratic Party Executive Director Jim Spearman said in a written statement. “We need a senator who is committed to doing right by Alabama, not […]

Since it appears to be a slow news day in regards to Jeff Sessions, I thought we’d have a little fun. I dug up this old Wonkette story from early last year:
Today [Mon. 2/13/2006] at about 1 p.m. in Union Station’s food court, I witnessed what must surely be the saddest fallout yet from the […]

The New York Times reports that during a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the US Attorneys Scandal, Jeff Sessions literally parroted talking points sent his way by the Bush administration:
The electronic messages, some written as recently as last month, offer a rare and almost contemporaneous account of the tactics used by a sitting administration […]
